Spinal disorders and back pain are known to be the two most common problems in today’s time. These problems affects every individual at some point in their lives. The problem is very prominent amongst the corporates, especially in terms of spine and lower back pain. Due to sedentary lifestyle and sitting on those large screens, causes the back muscles to be stiff, which due to continuous inactivity becomes a problem of life time. While you may have painkillers or go for therapeutic massages, the back problems have a higher chance of recurrence.

Another most common problem faced is of sciatica. The pain between back and legs, which runs deep in the buttock. If you are one of them, who suffers from back problems very often and have tried everything yet not satisfied. Our question is that have you tried Kati Vasti? An Ayurvedic treatment, also referred as oil pulling treatment. Kati Basti is one of the most popular Ayurvedic treatments amongst people. If you are sceptic about this therapy, you should definitely ask someone who has tried Kati Vasti.

The word Katimeans ‘back’ and Vastimeans ‘to hold’, where a vessel of dough is created and medicated oil is poured on your back in that vessel/container. The dough is created from pulses mainly black gram. The aim is to pour medicated oil for a limited amount of time and then massage the marma points providing deeper relaxation to the tissues and the spine.

The following indications mentioned below reflect the need for Kati Vasti:

  • Lower Back Ache
  • Sciatica
  • Lumber Spondylitis
  • Acute back injuries
  • Slipped discs
  • Disc Herniation
  • Spina bifida (occulta)
  • Chronic Back Pain

HOW IS IT DONE?

One lies flat on their stomach, where the area affected is massaged with potent oil. Followed by a reservoir or compartment of black gram dough, which is placed on the affected area. The dough is formed and placed in such a way that it does not leak. Furthermore, the oil is a medicated potion of various oils that is poured for a limited duration of time (at constant temperature). Followed up massage of the marma points and steam therapy.

CAN YOU TRY THIS THERAPY?

Yes! Any age group can try this therapy. From children to old age, this therapy is considered to be very safe and relaxing. Children who are athletes, must try this therapy to keep their future bone problems away. In addition, Kati Vasti can also be used as a preventative measure to avoid any future spinal disorder or back problems. Furthermore, the ingredients of the medicated oil is herbal and natural, which penetrates deeply in your body, providing strength and nourishment to your nerves, and muscles.
