FIVE SIMPLE WAYS TO PRACTICE AYURVEDA IN YOUR DAILY LIFE

1. Rise and Shine

The practice of Ayurveda states that one should wake up before the sun rises or before 6 am. The logic behind this states that staying in rhythm with the sun cycle helps you stay more connected to your biological clock and the nature. It is believed that there are three types of energies that circulate in our body and governs our physiological system. These energies are called Doshas or bio-elements. Knowing about your Dosha can help you lead a more balanced and healthy lifestyle.  There are three types of Doshas: Vata, Kapha and Pitta.

Vata is one of the most prominent doshas of all. It governs our body movement, the elimination of waste and the activities of our nervous system. Moreover, rising before 6 am is the most ideal time to help you feel at peace and connected to yourself. In addition, the time from 4 am to 6 am is the best time to practice meditation, or doing yoga asanas to help you feel Zen, just what you need to kick start your day!

2. Meditation

Meditation is just focussing on your own breathing. The more you focus on your breathing, one can experience a heightened sense of wellbeing. The practice of meditation can help you clear your mind, feel more positive and especially overcome the problems of anxiety, overthinking and many more. There are numerous benefits of meditation, however, one does not need to follow a certain rule of practising meditation. You can practice this simple form of technique anywhere and at any time. However, the best time to practice meditation is before 6 am. In addition, when practising meditation, do not try to control your mind but simply observe all the feelings and thoughts (good or bad). Let them flow, and simply be at peace with it.

You can also practice meditation when sitting on your work desk or lying on your bed. According to a study conducted by Harvard researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital, meditating helps to build the grey area of your brain. Moreover, it promotes intense deep relaxation, induces creativity, self-compassion and more importantly self-love.

3. Scraping your Tongue

This practice of oral hygiene helps you eliminate all the toxic waste that accumulates on your tongue. More importantly, it not only improves the oral hygiene but also improves your taste buds towards food. Practising tongue scraping can also help you avoid overeating and promote mindful eating. However, do not scrape your tongue too hard, as it can also cause you cuts and minor injuries.

4. Swedana (or sweating)

Sweating is an important tool to eliminate toxins through your pores. Also one of the reasons, why exercise is useful for. The largest organ for detoxification is your skin. The sweat glands of your skin, helps you to get rid of the excess impurities. In Ayurveda, Swedana is used to induce sweating through steam therapy. Moreover, many natural herbal oils are used in this therapy to detoxify the toxins. Through this treatment, one can clear all its doshas to circulate the energy of wellbeing.

You can also take a steam bath at your home or at any Ayurveda practice centre to experience this healing practice.

5. Massage

One of the most relaxing and soothing forms of self-care is massage. In Ayurveda, specialised herbal oils such as Vata oil, Mahanarayan oil (made from 20 Ayurvedic herbs), sesame and many more are used for massage. This specialised therapy is also called Abhyanga. According to a research conducted by Basler (2010), the effects of Abhyanga therapy was highly beneficial for people who suffered with high-stress levels. The experiment was conducted on 20 people, over 12 consecutive days in the year 2010. Majority of the people at first (before trying the therapy) felt it was just a general therapy. However, the after results were surprising, as they felt very relaxed as compared to a simpler form of massage treatment.

There are various types of massage treatments that solely focusses on an individual’s area of concern. One of the most famous and highly recommended therapy is Shirodhara, where warm herbal oil (more than a litre) is poured on one’s third eye to stimulate relaxation. Furthermore, Shirodhara is highly beneficial towards the nervous system, by helping you feel calm and relaxed. Moreover, it is highly recommended for people suffering from

insomnia, anxiety, depression, low-self-esteem, tiredness, diabetes and many more. At Nature Care Ayurveda, we have well-trained specialists who practice Abhyanga and Shirodhara. However, If you are struggling with time, you can always practice quick massage therapy at home by using a slightly warmed coconut or sesame oil before you shower. However, massage in a circular motion towards your heart chakra and let the oil be absorbed in your body for at least 10 minutes, prior to your bath.

Let us know if these simple daily rituals were effective for you.

With lots of love and positivity
